It’s Oscar season once again, that time of year when we celebrate highly paid actors for losing a ton of weight to play an average person with a debilitating disease and/or gaining a ton of weight to play a regular person who also somehow scores both Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Adams. (Oh, Christian Bale. How do you do it??) But in their attempts to change the world through the power of cinema and win Best Picture gold, filmmakers often give audiences some heavy-handed and occasionally mixed messages.
